As of late 2026, Runway’s current flagship video generation model is Gen-4.5, which launched in December 2025. Because Runway typically designates major numerical updates following substantial overhauls to their architecture, an official release date for a hypothetical “Gen-5” has not yet been formally announced by the company.
Instead of jumping straight to a Gen-5 title, Runway has focused on rolling out iterative upgrades and expanding its developer ecosystem. Recent milestones include the deployment of Gen-4.5 for high-fidelity text-to-video and image-to-video tasks, alongside integrations for advanced multi-model workflows on Runway Dev.
Industry watchers anticipate that any future generational leap—whether branded as Gen-5 or under a new naming convention—will focus heavily on enhanced physical simulation, longer native video durations, and tighter real-time directorial controls. Until Runway makes an official announcement, Gen-4.5 and specialized integrations remain the standard for creators utilizing the platform.
